Cleantech Council delegates meet monthly to discover startups and innovation across clean, green, and sustainable technologies and build community with colleagues from like-minded corporations committed to paving the road to a sustainable future through partnership.

This month, we open our lunch session to the public as we look at startups and opportunities working in Water.

For this meeting, we’re going with the flow. The Cleantech Council will be hosting a discussion of Water Technology. As carbon-based life forms, humans have taken a great interest in the Carbon cycle, and the consequences of knocking it out of balance. But we’re also made of approximately 60% water, which also covers ⅔ of our planet. So, if we’re going to try to walk and chew gum, we need to reduce CO2, but also improve how we relate to H20. And those two challenges are intricately intertwined, since climate plays the biggest role in where rains will occur. Perhaps that’s why, at the recent Verge Sustainability Conference in San Jose, we noticed such a large section attributed to their Water Forum for exhibitors and sessions.

Our meeting on Water Tech will address the biggest challenges with water: scarcity, pollution, equity, sustainable management, water security, and resilience.

This means we are inviting innovators who are active in the areas of:

• Desalination: RO and Forward Osmosis tech, using renewable energy
• Purification and Filtration: either for water as an input, or for cleaning of an output
• IoT / Smart Water Management: better measurement for better management
• Sensors & Data Analytics: the cloud systems to crunch new data sources
• Drones & aviation: new solutions for sensing wider areas

• Recycling & Reuse: getting more use out of existing supply
• Aquaponics & Hydroponics: getting more crops out of existing supply
• Bioremediation: microorganisms to break down or remove contaminants from water sources
• Nanotechnology: using nanomaterials to remove contaminants within bodies of water

These technological advancements not only benefit human populations by ensuring access to clean and sustainable water sources but also have positive implications for the overall health of the planet and its ecosystems. They can create growing equity value for the companies that provide valuable solutions, and the demand for solutions is only likely to grow. Sustainable water management is crucial for maintaining biodiversity, supporting ecosystems, and mitigating the impact of climate change on water resources. MEETING FORMAT

Cleantech Council Roundtable Meetings start with an introduction to the topic by an industry expert, followed by presentations from relevant startups, before a group discussion led by a panel and involving everyone who wants to contribute. We include time for demos and meeting tables for companies looking to start conversations, and end with a networking lunch.

Cleantech Council members and meeting attendees are highly engaged, making for an interesting, fun, and interactive meeting that connects the participant's interests with expert knowledge and startups who live the segment on a daily basis.
